What: Louisville SCBWI Chit Chatters Schmooze — Critique Night
Date: Monday, June, 4th. Time: 7 to 9 pm
Place: Vint, 4901 Old Brownsboro Road (Hwy 22).
At this month’s schmooze we will offer optional critiques. Writers can read from their manuscript for three minutes. We will give on the spot critiques. The first hour will be for socializing, the second hour for critiquing. Illustrators welcome too.

Indiana SCBWI

On May 18th and 19th, I attended the Indiana SCBWI 2012 Conference at McCormick Creek State Park in Spencer, Indiana. I got to meet three editors. Andrew Harwell from Harper Collins, Eve Adler from Grosset & Dunlap, and Jessica Garrison from Dial Books for Young Readers.

Green River Writers 2012 Writing Contest

There are 17 categories, but this is the only children’s category. You do not have to be a member or live in Louisville. The deadline is August 31, 2012. No publication. The entry fee is $3. Details at greenriverwriters.org

Master Class

On Saturday, April 21, I attended an all day Master Class on Plotting presented by Cheryl Klein, an editor for Aurthur A. Levine Books. I learned a lot and enjoyed visiting Asheville, North Carolina for the first time. The Midsouth SCBWI and the Carolinas SCBWI jointly sponsored the class.

Time: 7 to 9 pm

At this month’s schmooze we will have an Open Mic. Writers can read from their manuscript for three minutes. Listeners will have three minutes to write a critique for the author. More details on how the Open Mic works will be provided at the schmooze, but please bring pen and paper. The first hour will be for socializing, the second hour for Open Mic.

I have signed a picture book contract. 4RV Publishing will publish my picture book, “SPEARFINGER!” in January 2013. It is about Cherokee witch and a little Cherokee boy.

Retreat!

From Friday, March 16 to Sunday, March 18, I attended the Green River Writer’s Novels Retreat at the Kavanaugh Center in Crestwood, Kentucky. They helped me edit “Stone Man’s Lair” and “Slingshot.”
