I have finished a 45,000-word middle reader’s manuscript, “Stone Man’s Lair.” A twelve-year-old boy and his younger sister are separated from their family during the 1838 Cherokee Trail of Tears. I consider this more of an adventure novel than a historical novel.

Janice Tearman is a third-grade teacher at Bunker Hill Elementary School in suburban Indianapolis. Last week she read my picture book manuscript, “Spearfinger!” to her students. This week I received an envelope with 17 notes and pictures from her students. I would like to thank her and her students. The notes and pictures made my whole week maybe my whole month.

Today, I finished the Picture Book Marathon! I wrote 26 picture book manuscripts in February. (a marathon is 26 miles) While I can’t claim that they will all be published, I have high expectations for many of them.

The month of February, I will participate in a Picture Book Marathon. Each day I will have to write one picture book manuscript. I can’t guarantee that all twenty-eight manuscripts will be published, but I will try my best to write picture books worthy of being published.
