September 21st and 22nd, the Midsouth SCBWI will hold its annual conference in Franklin, Tennessee, near Nashville.  At least 150 children’s writers and illustrators will be joined by agents, editors and guest speakers. I plan to attend.

The SCBWI Midsouth had their annual convention in Nashville from Friday, September 14 through Sunday, September 16. Over 160 writers met with agents and editors. I met some great people and learned a lot.

What: Louisville SCWBI Chit Chatters Schmooze — Open Mic Night
Date: Monday, November 7
Time: 7 to 9 pm
Place: Vint, 4901 Old Brownsboro Road (Hwy 22).
At this month’s schmooze we will have an Open Mic. Writer’s can read from their manuscript for three minutes. Listeners will have three minutes to write a critique for the author. More details on how the Open Mic works will be provided at the schmooze, but please bring something to write with and paper. The first hour will be for socializing, the second hour for Open Mic.
No RSVP required for this schmooze.

I attended the 2011 Midsouth SCBWI Conference in Nashville, Tennessee from Friday, September 16 to Sunday, September 18. Speakers included Alexandra Cooper, an editor from Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers; Emily Mitchell, an editor from Charlesbridge Publishing; Erin Murphy, founder of Erin Murphy Literary Agency; Michelle Poploff, an editor from Delacorte Press; and Tina Wexler, an agent with International Creative Agency.
