The Green River Writers Summer Retreat is only a few days away, from Thursday, July 10 through Sunday July 13 at the Kavanaugh Center in Crestwood, Kentucky. This retreat is for poetry and prose. Lodging is available, but day visitors are welcome, and we may have as many day people as lodgers. We will have critiquing, writing exercises, & time to write! I will be there, and I will be glad to answer any questions about the 2014 GRW Writing Contest. (I am the contest chairman) Greenriverwriters.org
Writers tend to be introverts, which doesn’t necessarily mean we withdraw, we soak up the world around us. Here are a couple of my inspirations. “Showboat” is the rough draft of a picture book. This is the American Queen at the Louisville wharf. And the pond is at a writing retreat where I soak up inspiration, too.
I have signed a contract for a picture book, Raven Mocker that will be released by 4RV Publishing in 2015. Chucha, a Cherokee boy, battles a wizard who can change into a Raven and steal people’s spirits. Chucha battles to prevent Raven Mocker from stealing the spirit of Chucha’s sick mother. The illustrator is still working on it, so the cover is not available.
