THE LONGEST NIGHT EVER
Charles Suddeth
The haints called, called, called out to me.
I built a fire, huge and hot.
The haints knocked, knocked, knocked on my door.
I locked and barred that ole door.
The haints beat, beat, beat on that same door.
I covered my head and burrowed into my bed.
Morning light crept, crept, crept into my room.
I crawled out into the light of another day.
The sun has again blessed my very soul.
