Bill Tilghman: William Matthew Tilghman Jr. was born on July 4, 1854, Fort Dodge Iowa, died November 1, 1924 Cromwell Oklahoma. He was a gunfighter, lawman, saloon owner, and even raised race horses. His horse, Chant, won the1894 Kentucky Derby. At least 3 movies were made about his life.
In 1960 (I was a wee boy), I visited Military Inn, a bar/gun museum in Michigan. A gunfighter who pushing 100 was selling pamphlets about his life. I have lost the pamphlet and his name. He was a friend of Bill Tilghman. This man claims that Bill Tilghman was retired and one weekend, the mayor asked Bill to put his guns on until Monday when the new sheriff would takeover. Bill was shot to death in front of his 2 small boys from a second marriage. (this differs from many accounts)
Help me find the gunfighter’s name! I remember him wearing his 2 six-guns, cowboy hat, and cowboy boots, but not his name!
