The MeerKat radio telescope in South Africa recently discovered bubbles 1,400 lightyears long emanating from the black hole at the center of the Milky Way. The first theory is that the black hole swallowed too much matter and vomited the bubbles. The second theory is that 7 million years ago a starburst—the near simultaneous formation and fiery death of 100 large stars—sent shock-waves that formed the bubbles.
