Anetsodi, ᎠᏁᏦᏗ, Little Brother of War, was a Cherokee version of stickball, the southeastern version of lacrosse. Stickball uses 2 small sticks instead of 1 long stick. Cherokee stickball has a 25-foot-high goal in the middle of the field with a wooden fish on top. 1 point for hitting the pole and 3 for hitting the fish. Still very popular among southeastern tribes. Not an easy game—I played lacrosse in my younger days and got injured many times. Chucha, the boy in my novel Stone Man and the Trail of Tears, loved this game.
