This house belonged to my great-grandfather, Alonzo Pait, in Shawneetown Illinois, close to the river. About 1900 an Ohio River flood almost carried the house off. Alonzo attached a steamboat anchor to the rear of the house to keep it from floating away. It survived the 1937 flood and was torn down about 1980. (1910 picture of Alonzo’s elder son, Harvey Pait, in front of house)
