Grim reaper and I
Charles Suddeth
I quickly answered a knock at my door,
The grim reaper was standing there.
My life on this earth was no more,
He was a sight no human could bear.
His eyes were afire, his breath quite rank,
His scythe was long and ever so keen,
Tears wet my cheeks as my pounding heart sank,
No living soul had beheld such a scene.
I wept like a baby and begged for my life,
He laughed and told me to grovel at his stinking feet.
I pled for just one more day with my wife,
He swung his scythe and secured my defeat.
