Let the little girl dance
You know what she wants, what she demands,
Herod shook his head and guzzled his wine.
Salome grinned as she whirled, twirled, and cavorted,
The drummer slunk into the palace shadows.
Clothing of all sorts flew in most every direction,
As Herod’s wineglass dropped and shattered.
Salome ceased dancing, her eyes boring into his,
Herod’s chin dropped, Do what the girl says.
She grinned, bring me John’s head, right now,
Herod hid his face and wept bitter tears.
The guards brought out a silver tray bearing a head,
The world was never again the same.
