Russian base 3 miles from USA: The Diomedes lie in the Bering Strait. Big Diomede belongs to Russia and the Inuit (Eskimo) population was removed for a Russian military base. Little Diomede is American and still has an Inuit village. The 2 islands are only 2 miles apart. The international Dateline separates them.
