When with Quantrill’s Raiders, Donnie Pence single-handedly held off a Union cavalry charge with his revolver. His horse was shot, and it fell on his leg. From out of nowhere, Frank James rode in and rescued Donnie. As the Civil War drew to a close, Quantrill’s Raiders, about 400 men, split up but didn’t surrender. William Quantrill and the Pence bros. followed the James bros. to Chaplin Kentucky. The area was southern sympathizers, so they were safe. [I don’t intend for this to be political, but this is Mike Pence’s family]
