Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch by Alice Hegan Rice of Shelbyville Kentucky was a once-famous novel about slum life in Louisville in 1901. Directly south of downtown Louisville, the Cabbage Patch is still thriving. (sorry, no cabbages)
