Do kids know who Casey Jones is? He was born in Cayce, Kentucky, hence his nickname. On the morning of April 30, 1900, he was an engineer for the IC railroad, speeding to make up time. At Vaughan, Mississippi, a freight train had broken down—in the fog he missed a flagman. As he hit the brakes, he told the fireman to jump. He stayed with the locomotive and died but saved all the passengers. Many songs have been written about his bravery.
