More book-lover’s heartbreak: The Mexica/Azteca wrote in Nahuatl hieroglyphics, their libraries filled with deerskin or bark-paper codices. The Conquistadors and Christian missionaries burned them, 15 codices surviving. The Aztecs were great poets, the burning a loss for the world.
