Bear River Massacre: January 29, 1863 the US Army attacked an encampment of Shoshone in Franklin County Idaho. After Mormon settlers and a later incursion of gold hunters, the Shoshone were literally starving. Shoshone warriors were able to hold off the attack until they ran out of ammunition. At least 250 hungry Shoshone died versus 67 reported Army casualties.
