Normandy’s Red Beaches
June 6, 1944
Charles Suddeth
I salute those who stormed Normandy’s beaches,
Fear and doubt crushing their hearts and minds and souls,
Becoming heroes the instant they stepped into chilly waters,
Some were yet boys, but that day became men in the finest sense of the word,
Some never made it to the beaches, their blood mixing forever with the sea,
Others never made it past those beaches, their blood staining the sands red,
Still others made it past those beaches only to find a hell beyond belief,
Their heroism something mere men like me will never comprehend,
Again, I salute the sacrifices they made, the glory they deserve,
They forever changed our world,
They shall never be forgotten.
