My parents, Charles George Suddeth and Mary Katherine Pait, married September 6, 1946 in Angola, Indiana. They met about 1945 when they both worked at Higsby’s Marathon and Diner, across the street from the Jeffersonville, Indiana train station.
Mom burned all her poems but one. This one is about meeting him in 1945 and was likely written right after his 2006 death.
Charlie Boy
Mary Katherine Pait Suddeth
Has been a long time,
Since your face I did see,
Working at Higsby,
And looking through the window at me,
My heart did flip,
And never did stop.
