Great Sioux Uprising

In 1862, starving Dakota Sioux warriors went to war. They were badly outnumbered, and the army defeated them. December 26, 1862, 38 Dakota warriors were hanged in the greatest mass hanging in US history. (No Confederates were hanged after the Civil War, less than 3 years later)
