Devil in the Flesh
Walter Plecker (1861-1947) was an obstetrician who was appointed Registrar for the Virginia Bureau of Vital Statistics, 1912. A white supremacist, he believed in the one-drop rule—any non-white blood meant you were Colored (Indian or black). What drew me to him were his lists, county-by-county, last names of Indian families, which he distributed to the KKK. He listed some of my families which helps me in genealogy. Out of hate, comes one good thing.
