Ironton Bridge
About 1954, my late wife, Suzanne Fisher, stood by the bridge and handed a bus driver her mother’s Russell, Kentucky column for delivery to the Ironton Ohio Tribune.
In 1934, 16-year-old Kathleen Maddox of Ashland, Kentucky, took this same bus and crossed over the Ohio River to an Ironton bar, meeting Colonel Scott, a con man from Catlettsburg, Kentucky who used Colonel as a first name. 9 months later, Charles Manson was born to an unprepared world.
Recently the Ironton bridge was demolished. Perhaps memories there will die too.
