GREAT SWINDLER
Ah, Loki, weaver of slippery lies,
I know you and your ways so well,
Giant’s son, spider’s heart, hero’s bane,
You whisper fables and tales of yesteryear.
Man or woman or neither mayhap,
Trickster, deceiver, forked tongue,
Friend to none, foe to so many,
Your name brings only a tear.
You know the maze where wisdom dwells,
Where longing and pleasure and light flees,
Where pain and weakness and misery yield secrets
That only the heart shall tell—my lips are sealed.
