Boogerman: My grandma was from Appalachian Kentucky. She would always say to us: Be still or the boogerman will get you. This sometimes comes out as boogieman, bogeyman. (Snot references modern) Old Irish word, Puca, shapeshifter, trickster. Cornish, Bucca, sea spirit haunting coastal mines.
Linguists link it with Celtic words for buck or goat, possible devil references. It was once a common way to scare small children. Heed these words or the boogieman will get you!
