The Wampanoag met the Pilgrims in 1620. The Mashpee Wampanoag (People of the First Light) have a reservation on Cape Cod and are doing well. July 4th weekend, they had a car show, of all things. Mashpee means Big Water, as in Mashpee Pond. They not only have a police department, courts, and a school system.
