Hidden Louisville

Bowman Field is one of Louisville’s secrets, 8 miles east of downtown in the suburbs. It is the oldest operating commercial airport in the country. Operations began in 1921, commercial and military operations in 1922. Eastern Airlines and TWA ran passenger service until 1947 when a new airport was constructed. Air Force bombers used it, and during WWII it was the busiest airport in the country. Its two landing strips are still in use for private planes and companies.
