Officially, Bookriders were Pack Horse Librarians. Their salary was $28 per month, but they had to pay for their own food, lodging, and horse or mule. Almost 1000 Bookriders reached 1,5 million people in 48 counties. 1934-1943 WPA project to distribute books in eastern Kentucky on horseback.
