Although some forms are archaic, English has different ways of saying yes/no, depending if the sentence is positive or negative (listed 1st):

            Will they not run?—Yes, they will.

            Will they not run?—No, they will not.

            Will they run?—Yea, they will.

            Will they run?—Nay, they will not.

Of course, nowadays yes and no do for either type, with a little confusion on negative questions. Yea and nay are still understood—yea rhymes with nay. Other forms are great for conversation though are not considered standard: Yeah, yep, nope, naw (rhymes with paw).
