Reckless was a mare bought by Lieutenant Eric Pederson at the Seoul Race Track. She entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 & served in the Korean War, twice promoted to staff sergeant. She was trained to go to & from the ammo delivery sites. During the Battle of Panmunjom-Vegas, she made 51 solo trips under enemy fire. She was used to evacuate wounded soldiers. She received many awards for bravery: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, &two Purple Hearts. Life magazine named her one of America’s 100 all-time heroes.
