Quiz time

What did George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson have in common? Not what you think. They enjoyed ice cream DURING the Revolutionary War. Strawberry was a big hit. I can picture George crossing the Delaware, ice cream cone in hand.

My 5th great grandfather, mother’s side:

Born 1758 (1742?). Enlisted January 1, 1777 at Lynches Ferry, Virginia under Captain James Franklin in the 10th Virginia Regiment. Served three years and three days, discharged in Philadelphia. Fought at Brandywine, Germantown, Stoney Point, and Monmouth. Died in Hawkins County, Tennessee—Hickory Cove.

Photo of Revolutionary War Veteran: Recently, I learned that a few photos of these men exist. 1866 photo of Samuel Downing (1764-1867) Born in Massachusetts, enlisted in New Hampshire, fought in the Battle of Saratoga. He knew Benedict Arnold, called him the bravest general he ever met.
