My picture book, Spearfinger, traditionally takes place in the Snowbird Mountains/Nantahala River valley of North Carolina, but I like to think Spearfinger could have haunted many places where the Cherokees lived, even in Kentucky where I live. Kentucky means “meadowlands” in Cherokee. Whiteside Mountain, in the Snowbirds, is her rumored home.

I have signed a contract with 4RV Publishing for a picture book, Raven Mocker, tentative release date October 2015. A Cherokee boy fights off a monster/wizard who is trying to kill his mother.
This is a companion to my picture book, Spearfinger, to be released in 2014 by 4RV Publishing. A Cherokee boy fights a witch named Spearfinger.

An illustrator from 4RV Publishing is working on the illustrations for my picture book, Spearfinger, which is about a little boy and a Cherokee witch. 4RV Publishing anticipates a fall 2013 release. This will be my first picture book.

What: Louisville SCBWI Chit Chatters Schmooze — Open Mic Night
Date: Monday, May 7
Time: 7 to 9 pm
Place: Vint, 4901 Old Brownsboro Road (Hwy 22).
At this month’s schmooze we will have an Open Mic. Writers can read from their manuscript for three minutes. Listeners will have three minutes to write a critique for the author. More details on how the Open Mic works will be provided at the schmooze, but please bring pen and paper. The first hour will be for socializing, the second hour for Open Mic.

Janice Tearman is a third-grade teacher at Bunker Hill Elementary School in suburban Indianapolis. Last week she read my picture book manuscript, “Spearfinger!” to her students. This week I received an envelope with 17 notes and pictures from her students. I would like to thank her and her students. The notes and pictures made my whole week maybe my whole month.
