Monacan Indian Nation

The Monacan Indian Nation Reservation (federally recognized) is located at Bear Mountain, Amherst County, Virginia. The Monacan Indian Museum is open to the public. They are a Siouan tribe—related to the Lakota/Sioux—long story/long history.

Some have argued with me that the Disney Pocahontas is real. Even Virginia knows better as this historical marker near the Potomac River suggests. She never married John Smith but married Kocoum a Potowomac. She later married John Rolfe under duress. (I am said to be her descendant, but that is another story)
