The WWII battle you never heard about. The Battle of Los Angeles AKA Great Los Angeles Air Raid took place on the night of February 24, 1942, a few weeks after Pearl Harbor. Radar indicated flying objects heading for Los Angeles. After an hour of anti-aircraft fire, no Japanese planes were seen, but 5 people died from side-effects. Later it was decided that weather balloons had caused the alarm. (No report of danged weather balloons)
